Dangerous weather forced the cancellation of the Kickoff at the Levitt Shell on June 12, 2014.
About 40 GiVErs made it to the event before its cancellation, though, and were able to enjoy BBQ and beers and hear the annoucement of the 2014 grant making theme, Collaboration for Change: partnerships that support creative problem-solving in the community.
Grant awards support the work of two or more organizations working together on a project or program benefiting the community.
GiVEr Central BBQ generously donated all the food to our Kickoff. When the event was rained out, fellow member Sarah Petschonek sprung into action. She arranged for the buns to go to the St. Mary's Soup Kitchen for its morning sandwiches; the meat, slaw, beans, and chips went to the Urban Bicycle Food Ministry, who delivered BBQ breakfast burritos to those in need.
